We take our best foot forward in the beginning of change; whether it be a new diet, a new job, or the start of school in the fall.

It’s simply human nature to present out best in the beginning. And this is common for students, especially those who face challenges like ADHD, Autism, or Specific Learning Disabilities. In fact, I have worked with parents through the years who have told me in late August, “This year will be better … my daughter is taking things more seriously”. But then, when the honeymoon ends, the same parent may often call and state, “We really need your help … the pattern has returned”.

Yes, people change. And we do have the ability to turn things around within ourselves such that the honeymoon phase leans into the semester or throughout the year. However, when we are addressing neuro-diversity and related symptoms like executive functioning, processing speed. working memory, or anxiety, these patterns often surface after the honeymoon is over: Which could be as early as the second week of school or likely a few weeks when the curriculum shifts from familiar territory to “new material”.

So … keep this in mind. And consider keeping in touch with me. I have walked this path many times and I can help.
