A Special Message ...

As I write today, and wish you all a very pleasant holiday season and a Happy New Year, I lean toward a deeper sense of commitment forward through education advocacy like never before. I will explain in a moment. But before doing so, I want to say “thank you” for your trust and the opportunity to work with parents this past year for it provides the opportunity to serve others and do what I have been called upon to do as a purpose and a calling. For this, I am grateful.

Earlier this morning, I read the following headline: “Forty-Four Percent of Public School Students Began 2023-24 Year Behind Grade Level in at Least One Academic Subject, Principals Say” [National Center for Educational Statistics, December 2023]. As an education advocate, I sense this for there appears to be a higher level of concern expressed by parents the last few years when it comes to their children’s education program and overall school experience. And it presents itself in headlines like this one.

Personally, this year celebrates my 44th year as an educator, and my 25th as an education advocate. Fortunately, I feel more driven today to serve parents everywhere for the resources of knowledge, insight, and wisdom continue to develop as one ages. At the same time, I understand that there are less years ahead in contrast to the number of years behind. So I truly appreciate what presents itself each day. And through this work, which I call Special Education Advocacy, the opportunity to make a difference continues.

So I will conclude this message with the following: Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve families navigating the special needs path. Also, I would appreciate any way you can share this message to others within your community for there are so many more families who need this type of support. As a practice, I work with everyone for no one should ever go it alone when it comes to education advocacy for “The number of students in special education in the United States has doubled over the past four decades, creating a rising share of public school kids who need special education services” [Education Week, July 2023].

Blessings to you and yours.
Larry
