
How often have you said, “If only I had …”
… and the rest of the dialog sounds like a re-run of previous events, circumstances, and worrisome experiences? Sometimes these internal soundtracks seem to never go away. Everyone experiences this at different times within our lives.
In fact, our kids do this all the time. It’s part of the human experience. But it also supports a limitation on how we perceive life and ourselves by spending time thinking thoughts related to our shortcomings, missteps, or failures. Do we really need to play these tapes over and over? Does this way of thinking serve us well and inspire a life of opportunity and golden moments? I don’t believe so. Nor do you.
In the context of our kids, often students who are identified as “disabled” or those who struggle with learning, demonstrate a high level of self defeating self-talk / chatter within one’s mind spinning on what they can’t do or focusing on their fears and worries associated with school. In contrast, the more time we spend on thoughts in support of what we can do results in higher levels of success and accomplishment . In light of behavior, our thoughts and beliefs impact our outcomes. So one important way to help our kids address behavioral changes is to encourage them to think, believe, and create from perspective of “what works?” and inspire a field of dreams within through visualization and goal setting. Simply, thoughts become things; it’s a matter of choosing them wisely! And that’s where the Infinite Possibilities training takes fold …
